Cove by DIRTT
The Future of Patient Care
Small Space.
Big Impact.
As codes and practices change, health systems face increased pressure to maximize their space. You need a way to evolve existing buildings to optimize square footage without compromising function or patient experience.
It also has to be done in a way that limits disruption of your facility and the care you provide. Cove Clinical Observation Vertical Exam challenges the idea that more space equates to better care.

Frequently Asked Questions
What will your patients and their family experience?
Cove provides a calming and pleasant patient and family experience focused on wellness. Carefully designed to provide your customers with ample personalized space, complete with convenient amenities including lighting control, power receptacles, and personal storage.
All of the standard key clinical components are integrated into Cove. These include:
• PPE (hand sanitizer, gloves)
• Nurse call
• Sharps and waste disposal
• Medical gasses
• Physiological monitoring
• Otoscope and Ophthalmoscope set
• Axillary thermometer
• Overhead exam light
• Retractable work surface
What are the key clinical components?
Cove is designed for low-acuity patients who can be treated while remaining seated (outpatient or ESI 3V-5) and not for treating major injuries or critical conditions. Refer to the example list of medical concerns that can be addressed within the space.
What level of treatment can be performed?
Each Cove’s interior dimensions are 6’ wide and 7’6” deep with an additional 1’ 4 ½” built-in storage. With a net square footage (nsf) of 57, Cove is roughly 57% the size of a minimal exam room of 120 nsf and one third the size of a typical exam room measuring 140 nsf. Cove’s design can be modified to include additional width if desired. Wall height can be adjusted within a range to match existing or planned ceiling heights.
How big is the Cove?
Yes! On top of hundreds of graded-in finishes, DIRTT provides custom material procurement for 3D
laminates, brand and graphic integration, paint color matching and more.
Are finishes customizable?
No! Cove is specifically designed to easily integrate as a renovation to an existing space or applied to full-scale new construction. Its modularity allows for quick and easy install with minimal downtime and disruption.
Is this only for new construction?
Cove is designed to align with the Facilities and Guidelines Institute (FGI) Guidelines for Design and Construction Editions, 2022 Editions, A2.2-3.1.3.6 (6).
Does this meet code?
Once the base building is prepared to receive Cove, our skilled, certified installers quickly and efficiently work to install within your space. Off-site fabrication and modular assemblies allows for a schedule savings of approximately 30%.
How easy is this to install?
Upon receipt of a signed purchase order, we can manufacture Cove in four weeks.
How quickly can I get it?
Taking inspiration from patterns found in nature and the elevated experience of first-class travel, Cove reduces the amount of space required to treat patients. At the same time, it reduces the amount of time it takes to retrofit a space. The result is increased capacity and efficiency that translates directly to your bottom line.

Since implementing the pods, we have seen faster discharge rates for our ESI level 3s, 4s, and 5s. While the space is comfortable and has all of the same components as a treatment room, the size of the pods prevents patients and families from getting too comfortable, hindering discharge.

WHAT CLIENTS ARE SAYING
Our only regret with the low-acuity treatment area is that we wished that we would have built more of them! We have found that they work great for our patient population and support our operations.
Emergency Department Director
As our volumes and acuity levels rise, we have come to rely on the versatility and flexibility of the low-acuity pods. We love them! We can do almost everything in these spaces that we can in a typical exam room.
